Sony Introduces Second Generation Combination Drives for DVD+RW/+R and CD-R/RW; Combo Drives Include Software Suite for Customizing DVDs and CDs
Monday, September 28th, 2009Business Wire, March 14, 2002
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 14, 2002
Sony Electronics today introduced its next generation of DVD RW drives, which now also support write-once recording on DVD R discs.
Both the DRU-120A ATAPI internal model and the DRX-120L i.LINK external burner combine DVD RW/ R and CD-R/RW recording with DVD-ROM and CD-ROM playback — all in one device that delivers compelling features for burning DVDs and CDs.
The new DVD RW/ R and CD-R/RW combo drives and software suite enable users to seamlessly back-up or store up to 4.7GB of computer data on a disc, transfer and convert more than two hours of high quality (MPEG-2) digital video footage from a camcorder or VCR, and play back DVD-ROM and CD-ROM discs.
Both models support up to 2.4X maximum writing speed for DVD R/ RW discs, 12X maximum recording speed for CD-R discs, and 10X maximum recording speed for CD-RW discs. For users of i.LINK (IEEE 1394)-equipped PCs, the DRX-120L provides the convenience of plug-and-play connectivity and the ability to daisy-chain other i.LINK devices (such as DV camcorders) to the drive.
DVD R media, with its write-once capabilities, offers users an alternative to DVD RW media for permanent storage applications or for sharing content with others, due in part to their enhanced compatibility with existing DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives. DVD RW media is fully re-writable, and is ideally suited for data back-up and personal storage.
“Already, consumers are realizing the benefits of DVD RW technology,” said Toshi Naito, vice president of Component Solutions for Sony Electronics’ Core Technology Solutions Company. “With the introduction of a new software suite and a plug-and-play i.LINK DVD RW drive, we are making it even easier for consumers to take full advantage of the multi-faceted benefits of CD and DVD recording.”
DVD&CD; Software Suite
The combo drives come with a comprehensive software suite that allows users to create customized DVDs and CDs for video, music and data storage. The following are included in the software bundle:
-- i.LINK external interface -- 2.4X writing (DVD R/ RW), 8X (max.) reading 12X (max.) writing (CD-R), 32X (max.) reading 10X(a) (max.) writing (CD-RW), 32X (max.) reading -- Dimensions: 6.46 x 2.09 x 9.7 inches (W x H x L) -- Platform support: Windows 98SE/2000/Me/XP -- Burst data transfer rate: 400 Mbit/s -- Random access time: 140 ms (DVD), 120 ms (CD) -- Buffer memory: 2MB -- Recording method (CD): disc at once, track at once, session at once, and packet writing (DVD): Random Access Write (DVD RW), Sequential Write (DVD R/ RW) -- Compatible disc format: DVD-ROM, DVD R, DVD RW, CD-ROM, CD-DA, Video CD, Photo CD (multisession), CD TEXT, CD Extra and others -- Availability - June 2002 -- Estimated Selling Price - $599.99

Evolving profession of dental hygiene and career development
Sunday, September 27th, 2009Access, May-June, 2009 by Hannah C. Lee, Megan Alexander, Brooke Richard
Throughout the career of the dental hygiene professional, many important issues come into play that affect the practice of dental hygiene. With new research on dental materials, better and faster technology enhancing dental equipment and different ways to manage a successful dental practice, the dental profession is evolving every day. The main issues of the evolving profession of dental hygiene and career development are the relationship between oral health and total health, preceptorship, third-party payors, access to care, self-regulation and manpower. By understanding these issues, society as well as practitioners can come to understand the challenges that affect the practicing dental hygienist.
Oral Health and Systemic Health
A relevant issue in dental hygiene is how oral health reflects the overall health of the body. A problem arises because many people are not educated about the importance of a healthy mouth

Real Estate Brokerage Firm to Streamline Communications with Buyers through Text Messaging
HOUSTON — WHAMmobile, a Houston-based mobile marketing and technology firm, announced today that Prudential California Realty, the largest franchisee of the Prudential Real Estate Network and one of the top five brokerages in the nation, has begun using its mobile real estate listings offering to simplify the shopping process for homebuyers.
This real estate listings platform will allow homebuyers to receive property information instantly to their cell phones by texting a unique message to a designated destination. The code and message is displayed on the home’s yard sign rider and eliminates the hassle of getting out of the car to retrieve a traditional “Take Me” flyer.
“With the popularity of text messaging growing every day, we wanted to give our prospective buyers the opportunity to use wireless communication to obtain instant access to our home listings,” Steve Rodgers, President and CEO, Prudential California Realty-Southern California and Central Coast. “By using WHAMmobile, we not only streamline the communication between our agents and buyers but also increase the visibility of our sellers’ homes, which is key in today’s buyers market.”
With WHAMmobile’s mobile real estate listings, prospective homebuyers will receive basic information about Prudential California’s properties including property data, photos, maps, and contact request options right to their mobile phone. Agents receive contact information from the prospective buyer and can follow up at their convenience. The next release of the service, planned for summer 2008, will include features to schedule showings, deliver e-flyers, navigate to other listings, and more.
“Prudential California is an innovative company that embraces the fastest growing technology tools available, so we were pleased they saw the value in real estate mobile marketing,” said Jeff Lerner, Executive Vice President of WHAMmobile
